Dentsu Inc. GHG reduction goals obtain approval from
SBT Initiative

Dentsu Inc. in Japan obtained approval from the international initiative of the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative (SBTi), in recognition of the Company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets in August 2017. These goals are in line with the Paris Agreement, which aims to achieve the 2-degree goal.

The SBTi was jointly established in 2015 by CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) with the aim of promoting the achievement of scientifically-based GHG emission reduction targets in order to limit the increase in temperature to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

In the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015, the world recognized the importance of measures to combat global warming from a long-term perspective and began taking action to realize a zero-carbon society. Based on the Paris Agreement, Dentsu Inc. in Japan reviewed its long-term goals when launching its Mid-Term CSR strategy which was adopted in December 2015. SBT approval has been granted with respect to the GHG reduction goals.

Dentsu Inc. in Japan GHG reduction goals are as follows:
Dentsu Inc. commits to the reduction of absolute scope 1 *1 and 2 *2 GHG emissions by 24% by 2030 from a 2014 base-year. To address scope 3 *3 emissions, Dentsu Inc. also commits to the reduction of business-travel GHG emissions per employee by 25 percent between 2015 and 2050.

*1 GHG Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions from the Company’s operating offices, vehicles etc.
*2 GHG Scope 2: Indirect GHG emissions from the consumption of electricity and heat, purchased by the company
*3 GHG Scope 3: Emissions in the supply chain of business activities (excludes GHG Scope 1 and 2)
