Dentsu Concludes Agreement with UEFA to Act as Its Marketing Agent — For UEFA Euro 2004(TM) and Other UEFA Football Championships —
Dentsu Inc. (President: Yutaka Narita; Head Office: Tokyo; Capital: 58,967.1 million yen) has concluded an agreement with UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) to act as its marketing agent in Japan to sell official sponsorships for the UEFA EUROTOP Programme. Events covered in the agreement are the UEFA Euro 2004™ to be held in Portugal, the UEFA Under-21 Championship in 2004 and the UEFA European Women's Championship in 2005.
The UEFA European Championship is held every four years and after the qualifying phase, the final tournament consists of 16 European nations competing for the coveted Henri Delaunay Cup and the prestige of being crowned Champions of Europe. Televised UEFA European Championship matches captured a worldwide audience of over seven billion in 2000, making this the largest European football event and the third most popular sporting event in the world.
This contract gives Dentsu the exclusive right to sell the sponsorship packages for the three championships to Japanese corporations. It also gives Dentsu the primary right to sell the sponsorship packages to Chinese corporations subject to UEFA approval.Since the UEFA European Championship in France in 1984, Dentsu has been actively involved in the UEFA European Championship as a marketing agent for Japan, contributing primarily in the area of sponsorship sales. The recent agreement between Dentsu and UEFA was made in recognition of the many years of Dentsu's involvement in this major football event.
With the conclusion of this deal, Dentsu has secured the rights to act as marketing agent for all major world-class sports events (see note).
