The Dentsu Student Advertising Essay Awards
Supported by the Ministry of Education, this contest provides an opportunity for high school and college students to experience the world of communications and to express their own unique ideas. The first awards were given in 1949 for Personal Essays by University Students and High School Students on the theme, "The Function of Newspaper Advertising." Group Essays by High School Students became a new category for the 10th awards in 1958 and Group Essays by University Students became a new category for the 21st awards in 1969. With increasing globalization, a category was added for Foreign Students in Japan for the 51st awards in 1998, for a total of five categories today. The 57th annual awards were held in 2004. Each year generates more interest, and nearly 5,000 essays a year are sent in from across Japan vying for these awards. |
