Kamla Alexander

General Counsel, dentsu Americas

Kamla Alexander is General Counsel for the Americas at dentsu, a global marketing network of creative, media and commerce, data, and technology agencies. At dentsu, Kamla manages a dynamic team overseeing all legal and compliance issues for the region of 16,000+ employees. Key to her role is her leadership supporting large M&A deals, expansion of the team’s privacy, employment, and compliance expertise for the region, further developing a large commercial legal team supporting each of dentsu’s three service lines, as well as providing strategic advice to the Americas Executive Leadership Team. Kamla’s style enables her to cultivate high performing individuals and teams, enabling clients to exceed their goals using her deep industry experience, strategic guidance, and empathetic leadership. Prior to joining dentsu, Kamlawas Senior Managing Counsel, Commercial Transactions for The Coca-Cola Company where she managed the global team handling IT, procurement, supply chain, licensing, international bottling, and customer contracts for the legal division. Prior to this, Kamla held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility, including leading the US privacy compliance program and a short-term international assignment in Toronto. 

Kamla is enthusiastic about increasing diversity in the legal profession and, from May 2013 through December 2016, served as chair of the Coca-Cola Legal Division Diversity Council. As a result of her work, the Daily Report awarded Coca-Cola with the 2016 “Legal Department of the Year” award for its long-running work in the diversity space. Kamla serves on the National Bar Association’s Commercial Law Section Executive Committee and was a Conference Co-Chair for the annual Corporate Counsel Conferences in 2015 and 2017. From 2014-2017, Kamla was a member of Duke University School of Law’s Law Alumni Association Board of Directors. In March 2017, Coca-Cola selected Kamla as one of two Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (“LCLD”) Fellows. Coming full circle, Kamla is now an LCLD General Counsel Member and continues to actively pursue her diversity efforts through, among other things, her Leaders at the Front Pledge for the organization. In February 2022, Savoy Magazine selected Kamla as one of their 2022 Most Influential Black Lawyers. In March 2022, the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys awarded Kamla with their Breaking the Glass Ceiling award.

Kamla began her practice in complex and intellectual property litigation at the law firm of Troutman Pepper until she joined The Coca-Cola Company in 2006, where she worked until joining dentsu International in May 2021. Kamla received her bachelor’s degree from Emory University, and her law degree from Duke University School of Law.
