The APAC Consumer Navigator – Consumer Mindset Q2 2026 explores how consumers across Asia-Pacific are navigating a period of economic optimism while maintaining disciplined spending habits and a strong focus on value. Based on a dentsu-led survey of consumers in Australia, China, India, Japan and Malaysia, the research reveals that confidence in both the economy and personal finances remains resilient, particularly in China and India, despite emerging caution in some markets.
While most households report being able to comfortably manage monthly expenses, consumers are becoming increasingly intentional in how they spend. Discretionary categories such as dining out, fashion and entertainment are seeing spending pullbacks, while everyday essentials remain the priority. At the same time, consumers are selectively willing to pay more for products and experiences that offer durability, quality or clear value, signalling a shift from broad-based spending to smarter purchase decisions.
Looking ahead, optimism remains strongest among Gen Z and Millennials, who are more positive about both economic conditions and their personal financial outlook. For brands, this points to continued opportunities in lifestyle, wellness, technology and experience-led categories. However, success will depend on demonstrating tangible value, reliability and relevance, rather than relying solely on premium positioning or aspirational messaging.
